Travel Plans....

Christi is reporting to the mission home this Thursday, October 15th.  Our mom and step-dad will be picking her up that day in Germany.  They are going to travel around Germany for the next 10 days....sightseeing and allowing Christi to say a few more goodbyes!  They all fly home...into Seattle....on October 24th!

On a personal note...I cannot believe that 18 months have already passed...for me, it has gone incredibly quick.  I have had such a fun time keeping up this blog and reading all of your comments.  I will definitely be posting pictures of her coming home....so don't stop checking the blog yet!

Maybe I can convince Christi to take over the blog and turn it into one about her final year at BYU-ID...we shall see!

Email from Mission President

Last week Christi wrote the following in her letter:

Thursday was Zone Conference and I got to sing for Elder Robert Oaks (the Area President for Europe) I didn´t mess up!! WOW...What a miracle. I also really felt the spirit and didn´t cry. That is also a miracle!! It was pretty good for not having practiced in over a year!! That day was just a miracle because we learned so much through the Spirit!!

This is an email sent to Christi's mom from Sister Thompson, the mission president's wife:

Dear Sister Jones,

We had a most delightful experience at our Mission Tour with Elder Robert Oaks and his wife during the vocal solo of your daughter, Sister Christi Jones. We asked her to perform a special musical number for the afternoon of zone conference and she willingly accepted. Her performance was so moving and sensitive as she sang in her beautiful, clear voice, "Jesus the Very Thought of Thee." We were all in tears at the end of her marvelous solo. Elder Oaks commented that it was one of the most beautiful renditions he had ever heard and thanked her for bringing the Spirit in such abundance.

We just love your daughter and so appreciate the love and support you give her. Her obedience and enthusiasm for the gospel and her missionary work are exemplary and we are so honored to be able to serve with her. Thank you for preparing her so well to serve.

This is a comment that was left on Christi's blog this past week....just crazy really. And to you Maudjean...please feel free to read Sister Jones' blog and comment anytime...I am just amazed at how small the world really is!

We're the Thompson's, Dave and Maudjean, from Bothell, Washington. Our daughter came across your great blog for Sister Christi Jones thru her friend, Analisa Walk's site, and then discovered Sister Jones is a cousin of our good friend, Hannah Unguren. We've been friends with the Unguren family for many years. What makes us more excited is that our son, Elder Alec Thompson, is also serving in the Hamburg Mission!! He arrived there this past December. He's serving in Dortmund right now. While Elder Thompson is a good letter writer, he doesn't describe things like a girl does! So we learned so much from Sister Jones' first letter, the info about the rock, and what they did when they arrived! We hope you won't mind if we follow her progress on your blog. Maybe our missionaries will meet during their missions! Thanks again for sharing Sister Jones' great letters!

It's a small world after all...(at least in my world)

At church today I bore my testimony...but that's not the cool thing.  I talked briefly about Christi leaving for her mission this past Tuesday and heading for Germany.  After the meeting one of the elders in our ward came up to me and asked where my sister was going in Germany and I told him Hamburg.  He stated "that's my mission....that's where I'm from".  I had no idea he was foreign...he barely has an accent.  Anyway...his name is Elder Krieger and he is from Kassel, which is in the Hamburg Mission.  He told me that she would be well taken care of and to not worry about her.  I may have mentioned that I was a little worried about my little sister being so far away....sorry Vicki, but I just wasn't worried about you...you are the big sister you know!  I thought that it was VERY cool and thought I would share my story!

She's not in "UTAH" anymore...

She has flown away...on to Chicago...then Paris...and finally to Germany! She is very excited to go...but nervous as well! As much as she LOVED the MTC...she was ready to go (and by the way, she is sick of her clothes already)! The mission home address is listed to the right...so please feel free to drop her a line. We will try to keep the address updated as she moves from place to place...but the mission home will always be a permanent place to send letters and packages (hint, hint).

Also, Christi has told us that she is very excited to read this blog once she gets home...16 months from now...and we feel that it would be great if anyone who visits the site and reads her letters, leaves her a comment that she can read when she returns. At the bottom of each blog there is the word "comment", click on that and a pop up window will appear. Type a message in the box with your name..if you don't have an account with google then just click the anonymous button so your comment can be posted. Feel free to leave as many comments as you want...I know she will be delighted to read them!

Thanks for caring enough about our little sister missionary to continually check-in on her. We are so proud of her and so excited for her as she is on her way to the "mission field". We know she is going to be a great missionary!

She's headed to Germany

Well...it is official, Christi leaves for Germany on Tuesday, May 27th. She is very excited to be going, but nervous as well. Here is part of an email to our mom about her flight plans:

I leave the SLC Airport at 10:25am (may 27) and arrive in Chicago at 2:35pm...eastern time!! I don't leave till 5:30pm chicago time, so I will call when I can get to a phone there!! I then head to Paris and arrive there 8:50am (May 28) and then leave at 10:35am for hamburg...I finally arrive at my destination at 12:10pm!! Then I have orientation, meetings with the mission pres. and then dinner and bed at 10:30pm!! It will be a very long exhausting day, but I'm so excited. A little nervous, but excited. My German is still not very good but I know it ill come!!

The mission home address in Germany is listed on a previous post...if you haven't written her yet..now would be a great time, so she has some mail waiting for her when she arrives!

Also...she is sending her memory card with her pics from the MTC to mom so I am hoping to get some pics posted in the next week or so!

To blog...

Taking the lead and idea from my Aunt Kim (who is doing this for her son, Alex)...we have decided to put together a blog to keep everyone updated on where and how Christi is doing.  We will do our best to keep this updated with her location and goings on in Germany.
